What to do?
- Go to the island of Tabarca
Spending the day in Tabarca is something that anyone visiting Alicante must do... You can get there from Alicante or Santa Pola by boat at a very good price.
On site, you have to explore the island, swim in its coves, see its caves.
If you like scuba diving, this is an ideal place to practice it.
- Walk in the marina
This is the most modern district of Santa Pola. Festive atmosphere, bars, pubs, restaurants, shops, shows and street musicians and puppeteers. For lovers of shopping on the beach markets, many stalls with bracelets, bags, toys, hats, etc. ....
- Visit to the castle of Santa Pola
Located in a very central square of the city, it dates from the 16th century and is Renaissance style. It was built to protect sailors from pirates. It houses the museums of the sea and fishing, and you can continue the historical tour by discovering the Roman house of the palm grove and go back to the 4th century AD. It is a cultural center that hosts numerous events and markets.
- The Salinas de Santa Pola, a protected natural park of incredible beauty where you can observe birds and photograph unforgettable images.
In the park you will find the Salt Museum, an interesting stop to learn about the origin of this place full of flamingos and storks, as well as the Tamarit watchtower.
It is a set of ponds in which seawater is deposited that, over time, evaporates and allows the salt to be extracted. They extend over 2,496 hectares and are home to numerous species of birds, including flamingos, which feed on the fish that remain in these lagoons.

You can enjoy incredible views of the sea and the island of Tabarca.
Also worth seeing is the Torre de Tamarit, but also the Torre de Escaletes or the Torre del Pep.
- Attend the fish auction at the fish market
From Monday to Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m., you can go to the fish market for free to watch the live auction of the fish caught that day. During this auction, the different traders bid for the fish and the one who offers the best bid gets it.
- Visit to the Virgen de la Cofradía de los Pescadores (Our Lady of the Fishermen's Brotherhood)
Inside is the Virgen de Carmen, the patron saint of fishermen, who goes out in procession on July 16.
- La Calera Mill
This is a small windmill built in 1771 to grind grain. It is located at the entrance to the city if you come from Alicante and is one of the most interesting places to see in Santa Pola.
- Archaeological remains
They can be visited in its municipal park known as Villa Romana El Palmeral, where you can see geometric-style mosaics. Just opposite is the archaeological site of Portus Ilicitanus.
