Alicante airport, also known as El Altet, is located 9 kilometres southwest of the capital, in the municipality of Elche. It is one of the main airports in Spain, with more than 42 airlines serving 125 national and international destinations. It ranks sixth in the Spanish airport network in terms of passenger traffic, behind only Madrid, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Malaga and the Canary Islands, making it one of the 50 busiest airports in Europe, and the first in the Valencian Community.

Three world heritages recognise the cultural wealth: the Misteri d'Elx, a unique representation with medieval roots, the palm grove of Elche with over 200,000 copies and the rock art of the Mediterranean arc, with important rock art paintings in the regions of Alcoià, El Comtat, Marina Alta and Marina Baixa. The cultural richness of the Costa Blanca is such that festivals have been declared ‘festivals of international tourist interest’: Moors and Christians in Alcoy, Le Mystère d'Elche in Elche, St John's Fires in Alicante, La Procession Ramos de palma in Elche, Moors and Christians in Villajoyosa.
